About

A survey of churches

Churches are among the most deliberate buildings a community makes. Project Ecclesia records them systematically — region by region, plate by plate — so that they can be seen side by side, compared, and remembered as they stand today.

The survey begins with Volume I, Orange County, California, and will extend to other regions of the United States and, in time, further afield. It is published here as an atlas, with a book to follow.

Method

Exteriors are photographed from public places. Interiors are photographed only with each church's permission. Every building receives a plate number within its volume and a short catalogue entry.

I · Nominate

Know a church worth recording?

The survey grows through local knowledge. A short questionnaire covers its history and whether interior access might be possible.

II · Support

Help the survey continue.

Project Ecclesia is self-funded. Support pays for travel, printing and the time it takes to photograph each church properly.
